About RailFolio
For the “just one more train” kind of day.
Some people see a train go past. You notice the number, reach for your camera and wonder where it’s heading. You’re in good company.
RailFolio is a place for that curiosity: a railway spotting app built around recording sightings, sharing photographs and exploring what other enthusiasts are spotting across the UK. A little less “where did I save that?” and a little more enjoying the railway.
Every sighting has a story
It might be a locomotive you’ve waited ages to see, a familiar unit in an unfamiliar place, or a photograph that makes an early start worthwhile. RailFolio is about keeping those moments together, so the details and memories don’t get lost along the way.
Whether you’re starting your first sighting log or have years of platform-side stories, there’s always something new to notice. Knowing every class number isn’t an entry requirement. Curiosity is a perfectly good starting point.
Spot. Log. Explore.
Spot. Enjoy the moment. A favourite train, an unexpected visitor or something you’ve never seen before.
Log. Give that sighting a home. Keep your photographs, train details and notes together.
Explore. See the railway through other people’s eyes. Discover sightings, enjoy different perspectives and share the enthusiasm.
A shared interest, with room for your own approach
Some days are about chasing a particular working. Others are about a quiet hour at your local station and seeing what turns up. Both count.
Our aim is a welcoming community where people can share what interests them, ask questions and appreciate a good sighting without turning the hobby into a competition. Bring your knowledge, your curiosity and a little kindness.
Built with care, growing with ideas
RailFolio is an independent project run by Paul Wyn Martin. The aim is straightforward: make railway spotting easier to record and more enjoyable to share.
As RailFolio develops, thoughtful feedback helps shape what comes next. If something could work better, or you have an idea you’d love to see, we’d like to hear it.
Enjoy the railway. Respect the railway.
The best sighting is one you make safely. Stay in publicly accessible areas, follow station rules and staff instructions, and be considerate of passengers, railway staff and fellow enthusiasts. No photograph is worth crossing a boundary for.
